Donkey Sockett® Assembly Directions & Photos
For this project you will need:
1 Donkey Sockett® kit
1 pair good *craft scissors
1 *glue gun/glue.
*Supervise children when these items are in use.

For BEST results follow these 6 suggestions:

  1. Sort the materials and read through ALL of the directions at least once before beginning assembly on your Donkey Sockett®.
  2. Assemble all the parts before gluing them to the sock puppet.
  3. "Check twice, glue once!" in other words, practice placing parts before adding glue so they go exactly where you want them to. Small moves matter!
  4. Use the included chalk to mark placement.
  5. Keep in mind that hot glue dries very quickly. Use small drops of glue and glue as you go. We have illustrated this in different sections of these directions.
  6. Have Fun!!
 ASSEMBLY:

EARS: To assemble the ears, first make sure they are facing in the correct direction [1].  Center the Inner Ear inside the Outer Ear as shown [1]. Glue together beginning with the stem [2] and working upward [3].

Add a few drops of glue to one side of the stem as shown [4]. Pinch the stem & hold closed until adhered [5]. Slide Ear Buttons onto stems making sure both Ears are the same height [6].

EYES: Good eye contact is the secret to an engaging puppet! The BEST way to achieve good eye contact is to triangulate the pupil. This means avoid gluing the pupils dead center in the Sclera (whites). Rather, place them ever so slightly downward and towards the inner edge [1]. The Pupils will form an invisible triangle with the nose. {*Hint* Do Not add any glue until you have achieved your desired placement.}

EYE LIDS:  Align the curved edge of the Eye Lid with the top edge of the Eye Base. Hold the pieces between your thumb and forefinger and glue them together [2-3]

LASHES: Put a line of glue along the flat, unfringed edge of the Lash [4] Quickly & carefully glue the Lash to the Eye Lid as shown [5].

TAIL:  {*Hint* taping the top knot of the yarn bundle to your work surface can assist you in this part.}  Separate the yarn into three, equal sections [1]. Braid the tail [2]. Tie the end with the Tail Tie [3].

PERFECT PLACEMENT, EARS: Put the Sock all the way on your hand so your fingers are touching the toe and the mouth is in your palm [1]. Make two chalk marks on your knuckles (centered, approximately 2" apart). This is where the Ears will go. Make another pair of chalk marks below and between the first set, on your finger joints (centered, approximately 1" apart). This is where the Eyes will go [1]. Trim the ear stem almost flush with the Ear Button [2]. Make sure both ears are the same height. Adjust Ear Buttons if necessary then add glue to the underside of the button in the CENTER only [3].  Add glue on and around the stub to prevent the Ear from sliding out of the Ear Button [3]. Adhere Ear to chalk mark then carefully lift the Ear Button and glue the edges down [4]

EYE PLACEMENT: Add glue to the FRONT of the Eye tab [1] Adhere to chalk mark [2]. Repeat with second eye [3].
Glue an Eye Pom to an eye tab [4]. Add glue to the back of the Eye at Pom level [5]. Lift eye and glue to the Pom [6].

NOSTRILS: Make 2 chalk marks on the sock seam, one beneath each eye [1]. Glue a nostril to a chalk mark, repeat [2]. You can change placement if it suits you.

FORELOCK: {*Hint: for precise placement, practice placing your Donkey's Forelock between the ears and mark placement with chalk before adding any glue!}.  Add glue to the top 1/3 of the Forelock backing [1] Adhere between the Ear Buttons. Carefully glue down the rest [2]. Trim if desired [3]

MANE:  Add glue to the top 1/4 of the Mane's backing [1]. Adhere the Mane to your Donkey just behind the Ears, slightly overlapping the Ear Buttons [2].  Continue in sections; adding a line of glue and adhering the Mane until the Mane is completely glued down [3]. When finished, trim if desired [4].

TAIL PLACEMENT: Slide the Tail Button over the Tail knot [1]. Add glue on and around the knot [2]. Glue to sock behind the Mane [3]. Lift Tail Button and neatly glue down the edges [4].

TEETH: Helpful Hint: Practice placing the teeth in the Donkey's mouth before adding any glue. Use the chalk to mark ideal placement for the Teeth inside the mouth of the sock puppet.  Add glue to the top 1/3 portion of the teeth [1]. Adhere inside the mouth aligning it with your your chalk mark [2]. If necessary, carefully add more glue.  Voilá! Your Donkey Sockett® is ready to play!
